Sony Music Africa Signs Nigeria’s 11 Year old ‘Kamsee Ekpeyong’

About a year ago, a music video by the name ‘Kamsee ft Eriife – Friends’ surfaced on Youtube, wasn’t the type i’d normally replay but the kid behind the lead vocals looked so innocent. Besides the ‘very  serious’ image he had on, he sounded incredible vocally, it was almost unbelievable, he must have been covering a popular track.

Well.. as it seems, it is really Kamsee! an 11 year old Nigerian @ Trinity College Lagos. So what else is new ? this young boy has gotten Sony Music’s attention and there has been some sort of dealings in place to promote him. As surprising as it is, The ‘Friends’ song has been getting him alot of shows.

Kamsee & Sony Music Africa

Here’s how Punch News reports it..

One of South Africa’s most respected music moguls and founder, Rockstar 4000 Music Entertainment, Jandre Louw, was in Nigeria recently. He did not come on sight-seeing. Louw, who is also the founder of the South Africa Music Awards, was in Nigeria as a representative of Sony Music Entertainment Africa which came to sign teenage singer, Kamsee Ekpeyong. At a meeting with Kamsee’s father, Gen. Peter Ekpenyong, Louw affirms that the company plans to establish the youngster as a veritable music star in Nigeria and Africa, saying they would use their affiliation with the behemoth American music company to launch him into the American and European market.

According to the terms of the contract exclusively obtained by E-Punch, the company will fund and oversee the recording, promotion and marketing of Kamsee’s debut album in all its markets across the world. The contract is for an initial period of two years after which is however subject to review. Other details were classified.

Variously hailed as Nigeria’s Justin Bieber, Kamsee, an 11-year-old junior student of Trinity International College, Lagos, who came to limelight with his popular single, Friends, has performed at various big concerts in Nigeria in the last one year, reinforcing the fact that he is not a fluke after all. This new contract further underscores this. He says, “I am extremely happy that this is happening to me. It gives me the opportunity to further showcase my talent to the world.”
